Why can’t I choose exactly what I want in my Personal Harvest?
Each Harvest 2U farmer grows a different variety of fruits and vegetables depending on their farm’s location, climate, soil conditions, etc. Each week provides our wonderful region with a variety of weather conditions for growing. Through a CSA, the consumer agrees to purchase a “share” of whatever is grown by the farmer, thus keeping quality high and costs low.
Do I have to pre-pay for the produce to participate in the CSA?
Yes, only prepaid customers can participate in distribution. There are no on-site or time of delivery sales of the produce. Each Harvest 2U customer pre-pays for 2 Harvests at a time. After you receive your second Harvest, your account will be automatically charged again for the next two, and so on.
Can I manage my own Harvest Account?
Yes. Each customer establishes their own Account at initial sign up. After that you may go into your account and change your Harvest size or frequency. You may add options to your Harvest (flowers, coffee, etc.). You may also put yourself on Vacation Hold for those times when you are away and wish to skip your Harvests and charges. My Account may be accessed from the Harvest 2U website Home Page.
What is organic?
Organic refers to the way agricultural products—food and fiber—are grown and processed. Organic food production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers. Organic foods are minimally processed without artificial ingredients, preservatives, or irradiation to maintain the integrity of the food.
What is Certified Organic?
"Certified Organic" means the item has been grown according to strict uniform standards that are verified by independent state or private organizations. Certification includes inspections of farm fields and processing facilities, detailed record keeping, and periodic testing of soil and water to ensure that growers and handlers are meeting the standards which have been set.
What is Certified Naturally Grown?
Certified Naturally Grown is a non-profit alternate farm assurance certification program created for small-scale organic farmers, and striving to strengthen the organic movement by preserving high organic standards and removing financial barriers that tend to exclude smaller farms.
What is non-certified, using organic growing practices?
Many farmers use the same or similar “organic” growing methods. In some cases, becoming certified is not financially viable for smaller farms and farmers. In those cases, their produce cannot be called “organic” due to the lack of certification. The lack of the “organic” label does not necessarily mean the food is any lesser quality or the standards of production any less environmentally sound. There simply has not been a certification process.
What if there is a drought or flooding and the farm can’t produce the quantity or quality of vegetables it normally does?
By purchasing produce through Harvest 2U you share in surprises of nature associated with farming. Our farmers are highly experienced and will do everything they can to make sure we have the best possible produce no matter the circumstances.
